Minit Fun Racer review

May 14, 2025 by Lucas Kelleher in game reviews

Here’s another quick review for a smaller game that’s really more a recommendation than anything else. What can say? We gotta highlight the hidden gems out there.

When we reviewed the original Minit game a few years back, I had thoroughly enjoyed the adventure’s charming aesthetic and brisk runtime. The music in particular really struck me as exceptionally well-crafted, bouncy good tunes for a brief, but memorable, journey. Now in 2025, we’ve finally played the driving spinoff—called Minit Fun Racer—and I have to say, it’s still got that Minit magic.

In Minit Fun Racer, you play the little tamagotchi-looking Minit guy, but this time driving a Vespa scooter through a city. Like in the first Minit game, you have a very short timer counting down the seconds until you die. Although here you can also run your vehicle into obstacles and haste your demise. As you race along, you can pick up coins, kind of like in Mario Kart. As you acquire enough money, an in-game shop will appear between runs, and you can spend your coins on upgrades, like a helmet or better stirring.

This becomes the game loop: Race your scooter as far as possible, collect coins as you go, spend that cash on upgrades which will then allow you to go farther in subsequent runs, rinse and repeat.

Now while that description maybe doesn’t sound super fun, I am happy to report that Minit Fun Racer is actually far more enjoyable than I ever would’ve expected. It’s a legitimately satisfying game, and pleasantly short too. I basically played through everything in about two hours, although I didn’t get every achievement in that timespan. It’s a lean game experience to be sure; all killer, no filler.

In fact, I was having so much fun playing this game when I first jumped into it, I didn’t even realize there was an Accelerator button until I had unlocked multiple power-ups. Like the racing felt so good from the start, it hadn’t even occurred to me to lay on the gas. Wild! I suppose it helps that an excellent race theme version of the music from Minit plays while you're driving around and that tune is solid gold.

As a pleasantly satisfying bitesize treat, Minit Fun Racer is appropriately priced at $3. But even that gets better, as apparently all the proceeds from the game go directly to charity! It is genuinely fun—and funny—doesn’t wear out its welcome or take up too much of your time, costs less than a Starbucks coffee, and even that money goes to charity?? This has to be the most guilt-free video game we have ever played.
